Lately, we have been hunting for a treatment designed for extremely sensitive skin. One of our colleagues has extremely sensitive skin and allergic to products labeled as “hypoallergenic”. Through our research we came across Biocosmetica Exel. A skin care line from Argentina. Eva, the president of Biocosmetica Exel Canada was happy to provide us with information and one treatment of the sensitive skin line.
The concept of the sensitive skin line:
- A line in which beyond the mere esthetic component, the skin may actually heal itself
- Sensitive skin line DOES NOT contain:
- Preservatives
- Fragrances
- Artificial colors
- Alcohol
- Artificial emulsifiers
- Petroleum by-products
Before we started the treatment, Eva examined Natasha’s skin and even she was amazed by how sensitive her skin was. As you notice on the picture, there is a lot of redness around nose and cheek area. The skin looks dry and dehydrated. Eva also explained that this product line is the first of its kind in the world and is packaged in single-use doses. An opened container only lasts 2 days.
The two key components of this line – Beta Glucans and Yerba Mate Extract (Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract) – combine to create a vaccine effect onto the skin as well as promote highly efficient cosmetic changes.
1st Step
The first step of the treatment is to cleanse the face with the Cleansing Facial Lotion. It starts penetrating the dermis and creates a protective barrier for the skin. This removes all of the dirt and make up that client might have on their skin. The size of this product is only 6ml and can only be used for up to 48 hours from the time it is opened. There is no use of warms towels in this treatment, only gauze.
2nd Step
Apply Facial Tonic Lotion. To spread the lotion, Eva uses the back of the biodegradable bottle.
3rd Step
Apply the Skin Defense Activating Gel. This gel penetrates the dermis and starts working from within to repair the skin and strengthen the skin’s own protective barrier.
Eva uses the bottom of the bottle to spread the gel and gently massage it into the skin. The bottle is biodegradable and is safe for the skin. Other conductors used can be the glass head from an ultrasound machine, stones etc. ***The professional esthetician should avoid skin-to-skin contact with sensitive skin in facial treatments because the friction of the esthetician’s hands on the client’s face creates heat and results in even more redness and sensitivity.
4th Step
One of the last steps is the Renewal Facial Mask. It is packaged in a single pouch and can only be used once. It covers the entire face and the ingredients penetrate deep into the dermis. The client will not have an allergic reaction to this product as it does not contain any preservatives or fragrances.
While lying with the mask for 15 minutes, Eva also applied Moisturizing Body Lotion on the hands and décolleté areas.
5th Step
Apply Protective Day Cream with SPF 12. This cream protects the skin from the sunlight, pollution and harmful environmental aggressors. The reason this cream has an SPF of 12 is because people with extreme sensitivity cannot tolerate products with a higher level of SPF. The use of higher levels of SPF protection can cause allergic reactions.
Our thoughts about the treatment:
We could not believe how moisturizing the treatment is. Natasha always had a problem with redness and dry skin and after the treatment she felt that her skin was fully hydrated the entire day. Here are some of the after pictures that we took right after the treatment. Redness as well as the dryness of the skin has noticeably subsided. Eva recommends doing this treatment every 2 weeks. She also says that the treatment results will be maximized if the client does their homework. The client should really purchase the home products and use them in between treatments in order to restore and balance sensitive skin.
